Lovely looking guitar Ron,congrats! 8)

Is it just me or does the V64 have a slightly different body shape!? It looks like it with them side by side.

Could be just an illusion i suppose.

Yep, they totally do. The upper horn is slimmer on the v64, I think that is another one of the changes made for the C63's. If you look at most vintage 330 type bodies, the upper horn looks like that of the c63's.

I too thought they looked different. So, in the best tradition of empiricism, I laid the V64 down on a large sheet of paper and traced the outline of its body. Then I put on my white cotton gloves, picked up the C63 and placed it on top of the V64 tracing. I attempted to line up the C63 body with the V64 tracing at the bottom end of the body and also at the cutaways around the neck heel. I then traced the C63 body in a different color pencil.

I found that the treble horn on the C63 is approx. 1/4 to 3/8" wider starting at the "waist" and immediatly bulging out (for lack of a better term) all the way up the horn and then only tapers back in at the very top point. So the treble horn is definitely wider on the C63.

There are a few things going on with the bass side of the body. The C63 has a 1/8" narrower indentation at the "waist," then the horn (as with the treble side) gets slightly thicker (1/8") going up toward the strap button then tapers off to become slightly thinner (again, by 1/8") toward the top point of the horn.

The body of the C63 is approx. 1/8" wider than the V64 at its widest part.

So there you have it -- at least as respects these two guitars. Not a huge difference, but the bodies of these guitars were definitely not cut from the same template.

PS Collin, when you say "upper horn," are you talking about the bass side? I assume so but just wanted to make sure.

PPS, FWIW, the placement of the soundhole is noticeably different on the two guitars, which also contributes to the perception of a difference in shape. The slash on the C63 has a shorter "tail," and is recessed in from the body edge (thus closer to the pickups) slightly more than that of the V64.

Nice detective work!

That's good information to have. Now I know my eyes are still working properly.

These C63's seem to be well detailed instruments (and they look pretty sweet too).

I can't wait to get mine.

Congratulations..... Interesting reading and nice pictures...From the side by side comparison photograph posted, I noticed a couple of things that might make then "sound" different: (1) the slash hole size/placement previously mentioned; (2) the v64 on the right has the Bridge P/U closer to the Bridge, therefore would assume a sharper, more "twangy" sound ? (3) tail piece on the c-63 on the left looks slightly longer than the v-64 on the right.... would assume that tailpiece size and placement (and the Bridge placement mentioned) factors into string length and therefore intonation - but I am only guessing on the latter, as I have no scientific knowledge about the math involved. Regards
