Queen

Post by JakeK »

We all know "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions" if we're at a football game. Anyone who sees a Red Special will know it was Brian May who made that guitar himself.

Who on this forum likes Queen?

I bought a compilation called "The Platinum Collection" on Thursday and really enjoy it. If I were to move into studio albums, without a doubt, I would move into "Night at the Opera"

A great band with arguably the best frontman ever. Brian Mays inventive and awesome guitarwork has really set this band apart from others, with his unique tone and multiple harmonies. No player is a slouch in this band, but they have 4 very different songwriting styles. Each album contains compositions from them all, and consequently, make their releases very hit and miss for me. Great band with monster talent, sad to see them go.

I always liked 'em. Freddy Mercury is on the highest order of talent. The rest of the band was fantastic too. I loved most of their albums. This was a band not to be overlooked by anyone who wants to know all about Rock music. Get that studio album, Jake, I ioghly recommend it. 8)

Already considering it, Kira.

Brian May's Red Special through his Vox AC-30 (with onboard overdrive, I think) is just a tone that is HIS tone. You can't get Brian's tone anyway else, and it's unique.

Freddie is one of the best frontmen in rock (next to Roger Daltrey, of course) and does anything his way, and doesn't care what people think.

Brian's new signature AC-30 and the little white signature Vox were the only 2 I know of that came with onboard treble booster and "Deacy" amp simulation.(A good wah is also required for various "set and forget" positions, as well as normal wah usage.) My understanding is that all of the AC-30s he uses are dead stock, and have different things inputted in them from tape machines and delay units. That Digitech Brian May pedal is actually supposed to be pretty good, but seems pointless to me as I'm not in a Queen tribute band, have 6 arms, or multiple tape machines to play those awesome harmonized runs he does.

I'm a much bigger Who fan than Queen, but Freddy Mercury far surpases Roger Daltrey in all aspects of being a frontman. The rest of the band are definitely top notch musicians and vocalists.

Definitely get the studio albums, greatest hits records are so lacking in what bands are really about.

Queen was one of those groups that, imho, was capable of incredible heights as well as tragic lows... I do wish Freddy was still alive and rocking.
Because I told you before- oh, you can't do that.

Queen is a great band. I have all their older albums. I was also lucky enough to see them live twice - for the Night At The Opera tour, and The Game tour.

I saw them on their Night at the Opera tour (I think), they were good but I've seen more exciting acts. Brian May used 9 AC-30's, either 8 black ones and one white one in the middle or the opposite. I really doubt they were all on though. They were very good sounding, the harmonies to Night at The Opera were taped. The best front man I've ever seen was Peter Wolf of the J Giles band.

I could be the biggest Queen fan here...

The mid 70's stuff is fantastic. A huge range of musical mastery, from theatre to pomp, vocally and harmonies abound, all with a healthy dose of kick *** rock. Freddie was the greatest frontman I ever saw by a mile. As a live band, and on song, only The Who came close, and I saw most in that period.

Their gig at the cramped Lyceum in Dec 79 is still the best I have ever seen.

Nah, you're not... I am.

Freddie was the 20th century incarnation of Mozart. The guy oozed talent. He could compose things like Bohemian Rhapsody, paint, play piano and guitar and sing with a range like no one else.
He was light years in front of any of his peers - period.
