Almost rounded me up a Round Up!

Post by opticnerve »

Was anyone here watching this gem yesterday? I've always loved these.

http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0331624277

I spotted it with a half an hour to go, and the bidding was only at about $1950.00...with no reserve!

I called my Gretsch friend to take a look, in case I missed anything, and he said GO FOR IT!!!!

I put in a snipe of $2,750.00, then upped it to $3,250.00.

10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5 seconds to go...still at $1950.00...Man, my heart was racing!

Well, I got out-sniped in the last second :( ...someone got a FANTASTIC deal at $3,300.00!

Nice Tony, shame you couldn't snag it--- there is always the one that got away!

Think of the fact that the guy who won might have even gone thousands higher, you can never know-- and if that was the case you would have been outbid regardless.

You'll get the next one--- there is always something better up the road.

Hey Collin, Thanks! It's OK. I've had plenty that got away, and my share that I've landed. I'm not smarting or anything. I gave an honest effort, and someone else wanted it more. All the power to him...or her!

Ooooh...love the tooled leather sides with the metal studs!

That one was the special, limited run knotty pine Round Up that was released recently. It was a limited edition that is different in the wood and tailpiece from the standard Round Up. Too bad it got away!

I'm always surprised at the deals you can get on Gretsches from time to time. I got a Roundup for $1299 a while back, I think its about 10 years old. There's no leather on it, although it did come with the cowboy case - that thing is pretty cool in and of itself. A local dealer was blowing out 6120's last year for the same price - I got a nice Blue Sunburst one. Maybe, like the Rickenbackers, they are more of a 'niche' guitar?

Hey Matthew, This one's knot a re-issue. It's the real deal from 1955!

Unbelievable bargain! Even the binding is in good condition which is rare for a Gretsch of that vintage.

Yeah, I love Roundups.

Billy Gibbons has one of the coolest looking '55 Roundups I've ever seen. It's one of the most decrepit, exhausted, and downright grungy guitars I've ever seen---it's pictured in his book Rock & Roll Gearhead. Binding falling off---pickguard dry rotted through, strings have never been changed. Awesome...total rust art.
