I'm with Paul 100% on this.

There have been quite a few interesting exercises in electric guitars/basses since the "golden age" of the 50s and 60s - from the minimalism of Gittler, the use of alternative materials such as alloys (Gittler, Travis Bean) and composites (Steinberger), active electronics (Alembic et al), piezzo pickups, optical pickups, midi interfaces, touchboard instruments (Chapman) and digital emulation instruments (Line6). Coil guitars don't really stack up as innovators, and they outsource the manufacturing side, so they're not craftsmen, so what's the big fuss?

Funny you should mention the Princeton Reverb. I'm about to pull the trigger on a Musicman from a local shop here in Lawrence. That same shop has a Princeton Reverb (from '76, the tag says) for about twice what they're asking for the MM.

The PR is a great all tube amp. A friend of mine had a MM combo amp many years ago; it too was a nice sounding amp, but only the power amp section is tube, the preamp is solid state. I would suggest you try both amps and give them a real fair test before pulling the trigger on either one; you may decide the extra cost worth it in the end.

Ah yes. Budget issues. If I were going to spend just a little bit more, I think I'd go for the Vox AC15 they have. But at $850, the PR is a little outside what I had planned on spending. The AC15 OTH has a price tag of $600.

Why pick on these poor struggling folks who are trying to live the american dream? It's sad enough that they are destined to failure. I'll try to think of the PR dollars as stimulating the economy rather than wasted.

Jim K. You will like a Princeton Reverb RI or a Chinese Vox AC-15,
The Vox will be great right out the box, the Princeton needs a baffle re-enforcement over the speaker to tame the F# rattle.
No need to go vintage unless it's peer pressure from your band mates.

Regardless of the switches or sounds.......those are some of the least inspiring guitars I've ever seen.
