Mute screw fell out

In the middle fo a rehearsal last night on of my mute screws fell out. I think I'll just take the whole assembly out. My past experience has said that once the screws get loose, they stay that way. I don't use the mute at all but like seeing the screws there for aestetic reasons. Maybe a touch of loctite if I put it back on?

Yes, if you don't use it but you like the way it looks I think the loctite is a great idea. Remove tail, place a drop of loctite on each thumb screw, re-assemble, Rock out!

If you remove the mute assembly just put nuts under the tailpiece attached to the screws to keep them in place.

Dane Wilder replaced the screws on one of my bridges with something else here recently, I'm not sure exactly what but I trust his judgement (he did describe it to me first but I, being a dummy, don't remember the terminology). The idea was to get more clearance for palm muting. I know whatever he put in there it will certainly fit well and look good.

Quick'n'easy way - wrap some PTFE (plumber's) tape around the threads before reassembling it. It'll add just enough grip to prevent it working loose.

with loctite make sure it is the 'soft' kind as opposed to the 'hard' type. That hard type can be alot of work to undo. A friend uses clear caulk (as in bathroom) on the tip of the threads. Seems to work as well.
