Just got a new Dano Longhorn

Post by iamthebassman »

Didn't need a new bass but I've always loved Longhorn basses, got my first, a Hondo, in the mid-80s, then three Jerry Jones Longhorns, still own two of 'em, and now an actual Dano. It's the new reissue and it is sweet.

The Dano Longhorn bass is one of my favorite basses. Not just because John Entwistle and Tom Petty used them, but because they LOOK too damn cool!

Bill Wyman needed a short scale bass that wasn't a Hofner, the Dano Longhorn is what he should have chosen.

24-frets on this bass, right? My bass playing friend Dylan is looking for a 24-fret bass, and I think I just found his perfect match.

Very nice Ronn. How do they sound as compared to a stock 4001 and perhaps for further comparison also a stock P Bass. I know that's a bit of a tall order to describe the difference but I am curious. I have never played one of these before.

Great looking bass and fantastic colour Ronn! :D The Longhorn is a design classic. How does it compare to your JJs?

It looks to me like all the new Danos are put together with better care than the old ones. They were cool then, but now they look cool and nicely built, and that can't be a bad thing. 8)

danelectros are great sounding basses, too, whether you go roundwound or flats. the longhorn is by far the coolest looking bass they ever made, but all my short-scale bass purchases end up getting resold. (long fingers and short frets don't mix) i am really happy with the hodad bass,a long scale 3 pickup bass with upgraded bridge and tuners. i love the copperburst on that longhorn!

I'm a Dano fan from 'way back, love 'em! Currently I have a 56 U2 in copperburst and a Jimmy Page 12 string that actually stays in tune. I'd love to add a longhorn someday!

Congrats! I LOVE my Longhorn. A few years ago I traded my scarred copperburst for a brand new blueburst (and gig bag). It sounded just as sweet as the original. It's much easier for me to switch between guitar and a Longhorn than other basses.

I'm digging the knob set-up on the new ones too; sort of a deco chickenhead. Very sleek.

I just got a brand new Dano 12-string from my friend at Danelectro. Sweet 12-string for about 1/9 the price of the comparable Ric I'd want

Yeah, I like having the concentric V and T for each pickup.
