Re: Texas Flood - by Larry Davis
Yup, Larry Davis was a bad, bad dude. If you can find any of his recordings -- and there aren't but a small handful -- pick them up. This single was recorded in 1958 on Don Robey's Duke/Peacock label out of Houston and was the same label that produced steller Texas Blues recordings by such artists as Bobby "Blue" Bland, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Little Junior Parker, Johnny Ace and many more. Over time, Davis's guitar playing evolved into a very slick style and he'd developed a glissando technique with his left hand that if you didn't know better, you'd swear was a slide. His music also started to show more of a Soul Blues influence, much like later period Bobby "Blue" Bland. Unfortunately, just as he was gaining a resurgence in popularity, he passed from a heart attack in 1994. One of the great under-rated and under appreciated men of the Blues.

Thanks Mike,
You come up with some great music. I wish I had a tenth of you vast knowledge.

It's easy to obtain, Bri; just give up having any type of social life!
No seriously, you're most welcome, my friend. Happy to "share the wealth" as they say.

Re: Texas Flood - by Larry Davis
I just went looking for some Guitar Slim on You Tube, thought it would compliment Larry Davis whom I've never heard of, not even a record playing on a record player anywhere. Larry Davis is great stuff.
Re: Texas Flood - by Larry Davis
Slim is one of my biggest influences -- he and Freddie King are the reason I play a P90 loaded goldtop Les Paul! Some of the nastiest guitar tone I've ever heard came from Guitar Slim and his phrasing was like barbed wire to my ears -- LOVE that man!
