All I did so far was clean it,remove the buzzstop and change strings. It's going to go through many (easily reversible)mods

Why humbuckers though? Jazzmaster pickups have such a unique sound.

sure...where? ....originals not reissues...

might go with the Seth Lover Duncans or there's a couple of others...we try to listen to clips where we can but it's tought because they mostly put humbuckers on Les Pauls.

I actually use the behind-the-bridge sounds a lot, but I also have trouble with the E strings slipping out of their saddles. One of my bandmates has a Jaguar with Tusq saddles and they work great! The Tusq saddles look cool, altough the mustang saddles look like they would do he trick too.

I use a small triangular file or nut file.

A few strokes in the proper thread in the original saddles, to deepen the slot slightly, will locate the string so it won't shift. I have done this for years, and the problem has not re-surfaced.

Most people use those buzz-stops to increase string angle for more sustain, not to correct buzz, which I've never had on any of my Jags or JMs. I've also never had any problems with sustain. It's all in the setup, and needs no outside gadgets to make things work.

So many of the things that used to make Jags and JMs so unpopular, are only a matter of easy fixes or proper information.

They're the only other guitar besides Gretsch and Rickenbcker that i've been gasing for this year!

I've got the Mustang saddles on my Jazzmaster and both E's pop out at least twice a gig.

Paul - do you mean file the Mustang saddles or the stock Jazzmaster type?

I think I'm going to try the file trick tomorrow on the saddles. Seems like an easy fix.

While my son is excited about doing all these mods, and it sounds fun but, for now I'd like him to enjoy the guitar in it's original state(althought I don't think the knobs are original, cream ones are in the case). Then when he's really certain he wants to make changes, I'll do whatever he likes. Pretty well made guitar I must say, despite the saddle issues.

+1. A proper set up with the right gauge strings is all the offsets need.

Congrats on a beautiful guitar. Strangely, with my recent sale here, I'm suddenly, for the first time in many years, without a Fender Japan guitar.

Mmmmm....might need to go shopping!!
