Gibson jumps the shark (again)

That's pretty bad on a number of levels, but I think they really jumped the shark with all of the different "Limited Edition" robot guitars. Anything to make a buck.

Gibby jumped the shark about three years ago, when they started building yet more bad copies of other classics of their own legendary product line of the '50s and '60s. Every year at NAMM, their booth gets more and more boring.

Now this? What utter nonsense and inappropriate behavior.

Well, Epiphone has made/sold strat type guitars in the past, so no surprise....but Gibson themselves doing it is outrageous.

Shame on Gibson for robbing Fender, and shame on the entire Hendrix family for selling out Jimi so preposterously like that. I could see a limited edition psychedelic Flying V because he actually PLAYED one, but a cheap Fender copy.....COME ON.

With the small amp etc, it's obviously geared towards newbies etc, as a christmas season gift...but it's still a shame. Fender has exhausted every angle of Hendrix reissues, so I guess Gibson felt they should claim some of the market!?!

I read about the Hendrix line a few days ago. Jimi's estate and Gibson mentioned Flying V's, but never said anything about the Strat clone.

God, what a low point. Gibson makes some stellar guitars ...and some sad, sad garbage.

I like the Robot Guitars too Collin, it's not that, it's the endless Limited Edition part of it.

The Robot tuning thing could be a pretty cool tool for a gigging musician, but they decided to shut everyone else out of the technology, overprice them and make it a "collectable".

Then they put out like 6 different series in a row and milked Gibson collectors dry. Now, finally, you can get one at a reasonable price because people stopped buying them. They're on sale and in stock at most major Gibson dealers (GC, Sam Ash, etc.) for almost half of what they used to be. I've actually considered getting one now that they're not so expensive.

It's not the guitar, it's the greed.

In reference to this latest Hendrix idea, as one person said as a comment in the link, didn't Gibson recently try and sue Paul Reed Smith over making a single cutaway guitar claiming it infringed on their Les Paul design?

Then they turn around and do this.

I love Gibson guitars and have quite a few but the Corporate mind set they seem to have in this regime is going to drive them into the ground.

At least Fender bought Gretsch and Guild (amongst others) in order to make Gretsch and Guild guitars....

This is dredging the bottom of a barrel of really nasty stuff....
