Ric back at GC?

Post by beacon »

Received my Muscian's Friend magazine this weekend, it is a bass special. Ric is one of the advertised brands and indeed if you go to the site they have quite a selection of Ric basses and guitars advertised both new and used.

They claim to have a 4003 AFG in stock....others on 10/22.
No matter where you go, no matter what you do, there you are.

Ric never left MF. As far as I know they are still not involved with GC.

Musician's Friend is the mail order side of Guitar Center. They have always carried Rickenbackers, even when Guitar Center lost their authorized dealership.

Want to really taunt the salesdrones @ GC. Watch me walk in with one of my lefty Rics, especially the 730S. They can't believe their eyes.

When I went to buy my Markbass rig I brought my 4003FL to do the demo and I was there for over five hours switching amps and cabs... I probably got told "SWEET RIC BRAH!!!" a good hundred or so times. And then of course there was the one guy that couldn't look me in the face because I owned one. So whatever...

I took the S/5 in to play around with options at GC. It was cool because the guy that turned me on to the S/5 worked there and I knew most of them through this guy.

It's the customers that get giddy when they see one there. I put the S/5 down for a minute to look at other options to play through and watched a young kid come in and stare at it for a minute. He never saw me watching. I just know he was wanting to pick it up and play.

Anyone that played that day that felt like playing mine, I offered. I have no qualms about others touching my stuff and seeing if they like it.

I guess I did grow up and learn. That'll teach Mrs. Munster, my first grade teacher for not giving me a gold star for playing well with others. ;)

I think there's a thread here or over at the Ric site somewhere where one of the Ric guys, maybe JH not sure, explains why GC was out but MF was still in--different management styles, even with the joint ownership, or something along those lines. I actually bought my very first Ric, an '05 350v63FG, from MF.

I took my 325 JG (the one in my avatar) to the local GC for a set up (they have a contract guy there 3-4 days a week who is really, really good IMO), and the sales guys who were logging her in were really excited to see the guitar. One guy was old enough to remember the 325 blowout, and made a point of how bummed he was that GC and Ric parted ways.

I know GC takes a lot of heat from us as enthusiasts from time to time, but I suspect a lot of that is dependent on location and individuals--the guys at this one seem like genuine enthusiasts to me, just like any of us.
