AH! The Tiny Tim thing is what lead me to believe it was Jimmy Scott; wonderful vocalist!

One question who the hell is Little Jimmy Scott, at least when I did my quiz things I did try and choose artists that I believed the vast majority of people may have heard of with due respect.

Perhaps I am in a minority here

Roy, I have only ever vaugely heard of him also, but that is the good thing about these quizzes, I am fairly confident that those who participate in these quizzes are gaining exposure to artists that they would otherwise miss out on. So there is a positive side to not knowing who an artist is. Particularly if you like what you hear.

In that sense, Roy, with the exception of a few major acts like the Beatles, Gerry, Searchers, and American acts like the Byrds, Beach Boys, Eagles, etc., we're all in a minority. I look at this as an education in the cool, esoteric stuff that I've never been exposed to though, like you, I've listened closely to music all my life. (Granted, I'm not a music professional with close ties to a legendary studio!)

I had vaguely remembered (once the true identity of #20 was revealed) hearing of Scott, and a Wiki search turned up exactly where--most recently with Antony and the Johnsons, but also back in the '80s when he sang on Twin Peaks, which my eldest daughter was addicted to at the time!

Yep, I'm in the minority here, but I find I'm in the minority one way or the other in nearly all of these trivia quizzes!

I have a Jimmy Scott cd because one day I was in a music store and this beautiful voice came over the stereo. My wife asked who it was and instantly bought the cd. His story is very interesting, legal hassles with record labels and shady managers kept him from becoming a household name, according to many, and finally getting some recognition 30 years after the fact.

If they were supposed to be easy, it wouldn't be any fun. Plus I would be feeding you a steady diet of Ramones and Clash tunes. Which would be worse?
I thought I was being nice by posting someone from the 50's.

Seriously, I wouldn't know Phil Everly, Peter Green or half the other guys that have been featured if they beat me with a stick while wearing a nametag.

Yes interesting vewpoints and I readily concede that those under a certain age will not have heard of those I post.

The only danger with quizs is finding a balance too hard people lose interest and equally too easy people lose interest which is why my own quiz things are no longer.

On the whole, I think that these have been about right. Some quite easy and others like #20 real challenges. I wonder if age has any bearing at all...we've got some young musicologists as well as some older members with a much narrower field of vision!

Agreed Paul. I believe that I have a fairly broad repertoire (for my age) covering many genres but I really enjoy much of the previously unknown (to me at least) music being brought to the fore by both our younger and elder members on this forum. That's what I like about this feature that Peter started and hopefully continues to manage for some time to come.

Well, if we really wanted to explore the obscure, I've a bunch of recordings from 1910 - 1938 that we could delve into that include regional string bands, Blues, early Country and folk music. I've also an entire catalog of Bluegrass and Zydeco music from the 1940s and 1950s. I won't go to any of those places, though.

I'll have an entry sometime this afternoon.
