If it's not the dynamic duo that we tagged earlier it may be Duke Ellington and Charlie Mingus. But that would be a long shot too.

You got it, Meddy! The tune is "Wig Wise" from Ellington's 1962 Blue Note release "Money Jungle". Just a trio with Duke, Mingus and Max Roach on drums. Probably my favorite Duke Ellington recording ever and really shows just what an incredible pianist he really was. I have to say, though, that Monk is my favorite Jazz artist hands down.

Wow! the Duke is a much better piano player that I ever figured he was. That was hot. He plays a lot like Monk IMO or maybe it's the other way round?

Great bass playing too. It's tough to sound that good in a trio.

I'm not surprised on this one. The tonality and some of the odd intervals said "Monk" to me, but Monk was much more studied and even a bit hesitant. I've heard Ray Brown a few times live and I suppose I can see him on this one, too.
