The Jazz Funeral - "A Belly Full O' Gin" and "Sagebrush"

Post by sloop_john_b »

This is a bit overdue, as this song was "officially" released a couple of months back, but I realized I didn't post it here.

So, here 'tis, my ode to my most favorite beverage. Have fun, and remember - listen in moderation: The Jazz Funeral - "A Belly Full O' Gin".

Here's the "flip side" to that one - not quite as fun as the A side, but perhaps something for the hangover: The Jazz Funeral - Sagebrush

Unfortunately my downloads were not 100% perfect but I heard enough to know that I would like to hear more. You show a fanatastic maturity as a musician and a writer in those two songs John. I would like to hear them with 100% clarity of course but I loved what I heard.

I had to switch off after 3 seconds because the recording was too crackly and quiet! :P

Seriously, great song. Really nice production too. I really like the drum sound you got. Really nice energy to the whole performance. Not always easy to capture that in the studio. I bet you're fun to see live.

Crikey, even more gin? Guess someone likes gin.

Like this one too. Nice use of the mandolin. I hear a bit of Lennon influence in the melody. I think the most impressive thing about the two recordings is the overall atmosphere. Whoever engineered the recording knew just how to capture the band's overall feel.
Nice work, chaps!

Very nice work. I enjoyed those a lot. But then you know I'm a seasoned fan since your EP came out. Keep it up! 8) :)

EDIT: Three hours later and I'm back to report that "Belly Full" is has been lodged in my noodle on constant repeat play ... sure sign of a winner. Congrats! :)

Great stuff, John! I like the "old timey" production on the intro - record scratches & all. Solid performance throughout. To me it sounds like your vocals are getting even better than your earlier recordings. Great attention to nuance as well. The ascending slide at the very end was perfect!

Nice job on Sagebrush, too. Great voc harmonies.
