Joining up with some folks in CO, and did a recorded rehearsal last night using two room mics in opposite corners of a 12' x 10' x 10' room (i.e., it's quite small--barely fit the trio). I was astonished at how "tight" the recording--which actually only captured bass and drums, totally drowning out the guitar and vocals--sounded. As far as rhythm section tone goes it was really solid and desirable for something so thrown-together. Neither of these musicians are aware of RIC or its instruments, but the guitarist and the drummer were really "wowed" by the bass sound and so was I. It made me wonder if room size had anything to do with the resulting tone--added compression, EQ changes? Plaster over concrete walls, little to no "dampening" objects, short saxony carpet--what's the deal?
I'll share recordings if I get any (hopefully later via e-mail).
"Tiny room sound"
Re: "Tiny room sound"
Many variables: ie - Type of "room" mics, placement of mics, location of guitar amps. Sounds like you have a good basis and room for experimentation.
