Yes, two cabs...
And I am far from being professional. I try to compensate for lack of skill by having the best equipment available
So long and thanks for all the fish!

Update:
The SVT is officially mine,
An hour ago the seller met my friend's brother and got paid for the equipment on my behalf.
It will now be packed and should start it's journey from NY to Israel in 2 days.
Fingers crossed!

I don't want to be in place of the guy who will handle the cabs

By the way, are the cabs the weighty ones ? Not so long ago a guy of a music store told me that vintage ampeg cabs was of two types : one with ampeg speakers, less poweful, lighter, and a real real weighty and powerful one with third party speakers ... was he right ?

Nah, c'mon, you can't be that bad or you'd have the quietest equipment possible!

Gil,

That is a great find and price. I would have grabbed that rig in a heartbeat. I would have expected to pay $1000 more for such a set up.

Just a thought if I may on your first SVT experience. I was a late comer to the heavy side. I had been running a Trace Elliot (600 with a 410 & 115 cabs), A GK with an 810 cab and a Boogie BB 750 with a 610 cab, all great amps. I now own a 72, a 2005 and a 2007 SVT amps with 810 cabs.

Upon my first flight of an SVT at low volumes in a sedate playing environment, I was thinking ok, nice warm tubey sound, but what's the big deal? Then I drug her to the corner zoo & clown show with folks hanging from the rafters. The difference was dramatic. The tone, punch & fullness of an SVT is amazing when pushed. The drummer thought I was an idiot to buy such a thing when he first heard the SVT at a low volume practice. Once you get the settings sorted out, (I set the treble at max ), and apply heat, the money & weight are worth the effort. Even the drummer will get it. If you play an aggressive style with rounds, or softly with flats, you are going to love this rig. It's tough for me now to play through anything else.

Congrats, Gary

Okay all you vintage SVT fans and owners, what tubes do you use for the finals? Aren't they 6146Bs and where do you get them?

6146b tubes were only in the first series of 1969. they had the plate voltage going to the top of the tube via a wire and connector.

verrrry dangerous stuff, but the engineers thought of this and put a plate voltage disconnect on the front grill cover, so when you pulled it away it cut the 600 volts dc so you wouldn't arc weld yourself to the moon . on most '70's svt you will notice the remnants of this rectangular notch cutout at the lower of the chassis when you take off the front access cover. bigger on the old amps , smaller on the later '70's amps.

then in 1970, it was found the 6146b designed by rca was not as reliable as first thought (read the tech stories of when the stones came to america and borrowed the prototypes in 1969 and they kept blowing up ! these were white tolex by the way and yes...keith was using them on guitar ).

enter the 6550, and they never looked back. original tubes were general electric. fender 400ps was designed around the tung-sol 6550 which could handle more plate voltage. kt88 tubes are an upgrade but great tubes are rare. the genalex kt88 from the m-o valve tube company of england were the best. these were the original "gold lions" found it british amps like the hiwatt 200 and 400 or macintosh audiophile amps. these are not made anymore since the late '80's.

at this time and since the mid '80's i've been using "penta" brand tubes which were a chinese rebox for california. i've had no problems with them. i did try groove tubes 6550's in both my '70 and '78 and they all blew up. they were coded "H-10", and were matched. i was not impressed. so back to the penta brand for me. when i sold my '73 hiwatt 400 to a guy in england for $3500.00, i asked him if i could keep the penta tubes i had installed in it. he agreed. i also have them in my '71 fender 400ps without a problem. i used to blow up sylvanias like no tomorrow. not a strong 6550.

today, i can't tell you what's good or not as i've not needed to retube. i think i'd prefer to go n.o.s. G.E.'s if i could find some but don't need them at this time. only the kids of today could tell you or an un-biased tech...get it?... bias...amp tubes...bias...BBBWWWWAAAAHAHAHAHHHH!

here's ronbo's amp rig (circa 1990 recording "dirty weapons with cinderellas' andy johns at the helm in toluca lake behind bob hopes house ) with an SBT preamp i got from my roadie who also sold me his set of taurus pedals, the SBT was a late 60's solid state amp (**** !) that i gutted and saved the toroidal inductor (same as the svt )for the midrange control. i made my own svt preamp for the first channel with the toroidal inductor and for the second channel made a copy of an alembic f2b preamp in the same case. best of both worlds !

next is the '78 svt and the '70 blue face. and a pile of long and mcquade strings, my trusty conn strobe tuner and my KiLLeR DWaRfS LADO/RONBO collaboration bass. ( dubbed the "hockey stick".

yes...weez got two direct boxes goin' on that rig !

Ron,

Very impressive dissertation on SVT tubes. I'm a relative newcomer to the heavy side and have yet to re-tube an SVT. I've run her about four hours a week for the last three years with no problems so far. Could you describe symptoms of a head that needs re-tubed?
