Re: ‘Down Under’ Was Ripped-Off
Time for an appeal.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

No joke, about 30 seconds after the decision.

I can see what they're talking about here. I think people have every right to defend their material. But, it should work more like trademark issues and have some sort of time limits and proof of effort to protect it. 29 years after the fact is just a tad late in my opinion...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Typical court nonsense.
A note-by-note replication would be possibly copyright infringement, but I think that there has to be a large number of identical notes, not just a few.
If the same ruling were applied to writing, then no one could write anything because every two- or three-word phrase has appeared in some book somewhere!

Yes I totally agree Doc. Perhaps the courts want us to stop writing and playing "new" music? Maybe that's their goal.

I remember Weller being criticized for his 'use' of taxman rift in Jam's start. I think he claimed it was in homage to the beatles and I believe he had no further issues, stand to be corrected

I think it should have been thrown out of court since it's thirty years after the fact. Don't tell me the plaintiffs never heard the song until just recently.
Ka is a wheel.
