Second Thoughts About My Kustom

Basically it's a good amp. And I got it in trade straight across from a friend. The only thing I don't like is that the speaker cabinet is a boat anchor. So why not just look for an independent speaker cabinet with a 1X12 speaker and plug in the head? Something like this one is what I have in mind. MFI has 'em on sale right now for $99.00 USD. Would this be a decent solution?

Depends, what speaker is in it?

As long as it will handle the output power of the head, and is the right impedance, it'll work fine.

Don't get rid of your Kustom amp Jim. Yours is a very early model.Kustom collectors call the early amp heads "Frankensteins" because of the "high forehead". Those are rare and desirable among Kustom Kollectors. What is the serial number on your amp?

I've tried locating the serial number plate, and it seems to be missing. I just joined the Vintage Kustom Forum, and was told that some of the early amps had only paper tags, which were prone to crumbling to dust. This may be one of those. In the little blue Kustom catalog illustration in your post, the middle rig is exactly the one I have.

Yeah, I having real second thoughts about unloading this. In fact, I'm leaning more and more to keeping it, and finding a lighter weight, smaller speaker cab and running my Rick ROS through a POD-->Kustom, and the neck pick up-->Jangle Box-->Music Man 110 RD-Fifty. It's just too much fun plugging into both amps. And as you can imagine, do I ever get chime!
