Alex Chilton (Writer of September Gurls) has passed away!

Post by dbailey62 »

I was very saddened to hear of the recent passing of the great Alex Chilton. He's probably best remembered for his lead vocals for The Box Tops who had success with "The Letter", "Cry Like A Baby" and "Soul Deep".

It was while with "Big Star" that he wrote the wonderful "September Gurls" covered so well by The Searchers during their Sire period.

Oh ya, his "In The Street" was the theme for "That 70's Show".

David ----yes, huge loss----Alex will be missed.

What won't be missed are the number of threads already about this!

...and that's after a couple of them were already blended together.

Yes but mine was Searchers specific! :D

We've been very light on action around here lately.

Is this the same song that the Bangles did? Probably a naive question, but I'm only a casual fan of the Searchers, so I can't be sure. I think that the spelling of "Gurls" might be a tip-off, though.

It's a Byrd, it's a playin'..........

This Susanna Hoffs version is very good too.

The Bangles did some good covers. Their cover of Katrina and the Waves "Going Down To Liverpool" was quite good though not as good as the original IMHO.
