Re: The "California Melody Maker" ?

Examine these photos closely. Eric's white Melody Maker was originally a Pelham Green mid-'60s model (as shown above on the right.) He had two: one black and the other white. Each was repainted and rewired with humbuckers. This necessitated a new pickguard, which has a unique arrangement of volume/tone pods. Compare the knobs and guitar jack input on the Melody Maker to the right with Joan's and Eric's. The two on the left are an exact match! Both also have a two-piece bridge, unlike the stock model on the right.

Re: The "California Melody Maker" ?
Many years ago I had the Epiphone version of a double cut-away Melody Maker. It was Orange, almost fluorescent. The color was custom and called "California Coral". It had a brown/gold tortoise shell pick guard, one single coil PU in the bridge position, and that Gibson metal c-cupped shape style vibrola you'd find on an SG. All original except for the tuners. It was a cool looking axe, but the PU was extremely microphonic and the neck was as thick as the end of a Louisville Slugger baseball bat.octagon wrote:Anyone have any info on this model Melody Maker? I have read interviews in which Joan Jet said this model was called a "California" Melody Maker and that she had bought it from one of The Raspberries roadies. I have never been able to find any referrance to this model on the Gibson website.
A worthy note - I sold it to help pay for my 330/12 MG.
Expect nothing and you'll never be disappointed (and I mean that in an optimistic way).
