Hello:
I recently purchased a mid-30's Weissenborn Style B spanish acoustic flat top guitar. Okay, what does this have to do with Rickenbacker, you ask? Late in Mr. Weissenborn's career, around 1935, he was experimenting with getting more sound out of his hawaiian and spanish style guitars. Along comes "Doc" Kauffman (who later hooked up with Leo Fender) with his new fangled "Vib-Rola" device. In place of his usual "bat wing" bridge Mr. Weissenborn decided to mount a Kauffman "Vib-Rola" tailpiece unit on one of his spanish style flat tops. He also decided to ladder brace the guitar (instead of x-brace) and voila ...
The "Vib-Rola" unit on this guitar is intact all except for a missing arm or handle. I think Rickenbacker continued to make these arms or handles well into the 70's.
Anybody have one?
Thanks
Kauffman Vib-Rola arm
