I was kidding around, no he wasrnt bashing, and I didnt accuse him of bashing, in jest and just jokeing around, I said, watch what you say, it could be taken as bashing, I never said he was bashing, I didnt post it in the humorous way in which it was intended, I never past myself off as a comedic writer, but was just trying to be humorous, nothing more..

angelo and doug- thanks i knew someone here would have the real **** on this bass. i was surprised at well,everything. i have owned several fender basses over the years,and i have a jazz copy i still am trying to get set up to my liking,but this bass was just super nice. not incidentally the owner is thinking of sellling it--is $1000 a decent price for one of these? i liked both of the tonal options i got with it-i am definitely smitten!

i always preferred the body on the jazz bass,the necks,esp 70's maple ones,could be really TOO thin for my liking. i currently have a jap jazz bass copy body with a strings n things st blues neck that falls between p an j sizing,with a rosewood fretboard and some s.d. hot pickups-if i could just get the action/feel i like,it is a great sounding bass.... i doubt it has the full punch that is the p-bass domain tho....

One of the cool things about Fenders is the ability to swap parts. The ready availability of aftermarket and parted out necks means you can build the Frankenfender of your dreams. Hmmm a '52 P-bass neck on a '70s J-bass body with a S-D Quarter-pounder pup- that's what I really want.... (Apart from one of those 1999s from Japan)

I can say unequivocally that this Jazz bass can hold its own against this '76 Precision, and the '76 is no slouch. 1997, Crafted in Japan with an Audere JZ3 preamp. Very nasty when riled.

Well, I'm no expert on basses, but $1k for an AmStd P is in the reasonable range (assuming hard case and all that). I have seen new ones locally go for about $1200-1400. I think I paid about $800+tax for my Hwy-1 for reference--not quite as nice as the AmStd. IMHO, if the instrument "talks to you" then that is worth a little extra. I'm sure all of us have had the experience of playing a really nice looking guitar or bass and being underwhelmed and then trying a "lesser" or even similar model and finding that it has something special going on. Those are the ones to buy. Good luck!

I've got a Fender Jaguar Bass, and it absolutely Kicks Butt!!! It has passive and active lectronics, and sounds great. DO your self a favor and check one out.

I may have had a similar experience. I had been ignoring Fender basses for a very long time, but at a local store a couple years back I picked up a new American Vintage Reissue '62 Precision and started playing unamplified. It only took a few seconds to realize that this was a real bass.
