Modifying my 4003s/5

I was thinking of having a new pickguard made for my bass that would have the neck pickup in the position of the 4001v63 which is about a half inch closer to the neck.
Does anyone have an idea of how this would change the sound? I realize I would have to get the wood routed out for the pickup to be moved closer to the neck, would this be bad for the bass? Would this be bad for the sound or good?
