Pyramid Gold flats - length

Post by mikko »

I know some of you are using Pyramid Gold flats on your Rickenbacker basses. Some of you have a short scale violin bass with Pyramid Gold flats. I´d like to know “ball end to silk” measure for both, short and long scale Pyramids. If somebody could take some measures I´d be very grateful.

Not sure what you mean by “ball end to silk”, but measuring Pyramid Gold Flat Low E (.048) string, I see this:

Does that help?

Those are exactly the measures I need to know, thanks. But I need them for bass guitar strings. I´m trying to find suitable strings for my Starfire bass. It has quite unsual(?) 31” scale, so it´s possible that short scale strings are too short (normally 30”) and long scale strings too long (normally 34”). But you never know because measures differs between manufacturers. I´d like to use Pyramid strings and I´m aware that I can order custom made set from them if needed, but I prefer their std sets if possible. It´s much cheaper that way.

Mikko, I can do you one better; one of my best friends is an avid Starfire player as well as a Jack Casady fan and I know that he has used Pyramids in the past as well as LaBellas and TIs. I'll shoot him a note and just ask which strings he used on his. Hold tight...

Mikko,

If your Starfire is the single pickup model, then you'll need the short scale strings (30"). If your bass is a two pickup model, then it'll take the long scale string. My friend says that the silks will overlap the nut a little on all but the D string with the short scale set. All you'll need to do is take a little off the E, A and G strings with a razor blade and you're good!

Thanks! My Starfire is a two pickup model. And yes, Jack Casady´s sound is what I´m looking for, hence the Pyramids. I need to get new pickups too since the original humbuckers aren´t so good.
