Drummers: does Rock Band teach anything?
Just wondering, as my wife is out of town and with some spare time I have picked up her copy of "Beatles: Rock Band" and I'm finding it most fun to go through Ringo's stuff, though I'm not a drummer "in real life".
Re: Drummers: does Rock Band teach anything?
Well, I've never sat down and played the drums... either in Rock Band or in real life so I can't speak on that.
I can say that a properly tuned/sync'd controller can help learn time when you didn't have it before. Maybe it's just time on a particular song and it's nothing more than faking it.
I can't say for sure.
Anyone else?

That's because it the only instrument offered that is even remotely similar physically to the real thing
(compared to say....the "flipper" on the guitar etc).
Learn anything though? Nah, I don't think so.

I doubt I'm learning anything either, but it is fun locking into "Gimme Shelter"!

Also, the guitar and bass parts don't really match the rhythms of the songs. I always want to mimic the real strum pattern of the song and the game instructs you to do something off tempo.collin wrote:That's because it the only instrument offered that is even remotely similar physically to the real thing

My new favorite comedian, Felipe Esparza, has a great bit on Guitar Hero. "I play so much Guitar Hero that I forgot the words to the songs now. I only know the colors I press on the guitar. The other day Black Sabbath was playing. I said, 'I know that song, bro. That's Iron Man. Green, yellow, green, green, green. Blue and red to-ge-ther.'"
“'What was that note?' I told him it was a B natural, the third of G dominant 7 going back to C minor, and I can't talk while I'm playing so don't ask me any more questions." - Ron Carter to Miles Davis
