Chris Curtis

Post by JeffZ »

Just curious, once Chris left the Searchers, I know he cut one solo single, "Aggravation", and did some production for PYE. He then was briefly in Roundabout; I know they never cut a single but are there any demos floating around? Also, did he do any recording after Roundabout?

Roundabout eventully evolved into Deep Purple, not aware of any demos but sure they is some.

To my knowledge there were no recordings after the one solo single.

A recording did surface in 2002 however that was probably recorded before the soo single, a song that was a hit for The Walker Brothers in UK called You Don't Have To Tell Me. If you want to hear it let me know.

Thanks Roy! Not quite as good as the Walker Brothers' version but still not bad. Perhaps if he'd had the chance to put out a couple more solo singles he would have been able to establish his own carearr. I know he did do some production work for Pye after leaving the Searchers.

I'm adding to my Searchers Collection of CD's, but I'm looking for the Chris Curtis Years (as I call it). Does anybody here know if they put out any music in 1966 when Chris was still on board. I don't know what month Chris left, only that it was after Australia.

Thanks everyone! :D

No Cheri no recordings were issued in 66 which featured Chris, his last single with band was Take Me For What I'm Worth.

1966 saw just two singles released Take It Or Leave It and Have You Ever Loved Somebody.

PYE records here in UK seemed to hve lost interest in The Searchers no further albums were released on PYE. Three singles were released in 67 but then their recording days at PYE were over.

Darling Do You Miss Me

Post by chriscurtisfan »

Roy,

I have created another video using one of my favorite classic Searchers song in a special tribute to a very special Scottish Terrier in my life.

I can always find a Searchers song for every occasion in my life.

Thank you, David. I apologize for posting the wrong title. Thank you for letting me know, Roy! I'll Be Missing You -- yes, that's the perfect title they chose for their lovely song. I made the change to my video Title and to the descriptive comments. I want The Searchers music I post to be accurately credited. I prefer "I'll Be Missing You" -- it suits the mood of the song, and the mood of my sentiments. It's one of my favorites with all their perfect harmony to include my Chris...whom I am always missing. I have his solo version, but I will always feel that he needed them as much as they needed him. :(

Very pretty song, I always thought this would have made a good A Side. It might have given them the confidence to push the songwriting a bit more.

Nothing is as heartbreaking as loosing a pet...the love they give is unconditional.

Jeff, I have always found it sadly ironic that Chris wrote this song and subsequently left the band for his own reasons. This version would have made a wonderful A side...and maybe would have changed the course of Searchers history. Where oh where is that Time Machine I so want to get on and go back and remain in the 60's. ;-)

I know Roy would be on that Time Machine, along with many of us who were FORTUNATE enough to have lived through that decade.

Unconditional love -- you are right -- that's why we always have dogs in our home. No family left, just good friends and our dogs. But An'GUS -- he was my canine soulmate. Seemed fitting to put his video to a Searchers song composed by Chris that describes the way I feel about both of them...

Needles & Pins on Ed Sullivan

Post by chriscurtisfan »

Hi everybody! For sometime, I've been watching The Searchers singing Needles on YT, and not hearing Chris high harmony. Somebody had tried to edit in the audio, but it was a harsh quality track and hurt my ears to listen. I got my good YT friend, Bob, to add his high quality audio track to the video. We know it's not in perfect sync, and in some parts Chris is busy drumming while he is clearly singing on the audio. However, at least his voice is heard, and Bob did a better version on syncing audio to video than I ever could. All versions I've seen of this video claim to be from the Sullivan show, and Chris is not heard. If you read up on Ed Sullivan on Wikipedia, he pulled some nasty stunts, like turning off Chris mic would have been within the realm. Whether or not they sang live that night, I don't know and in those days I was clueless about lipsyncing, at age 12. To date, somebody has yet to post a video that doesn't sound like a lipsync...they are just too perfect like the studio recording.

Roy, that's another question for you to ask Frank and John, if you aren't certain. Were they singing live on Sullivan? Someone posted a comment on one of these Sullivan vids that the guys looked confused in this video. If it was indeed live, and Chris' mic was turned off, that could account for the confused expressions. Personally, I don't know or care if they were confused, they looked perfect to me -- enough to keep me as a fan all these years later and forever. When Chris looks into the camera with that beautiful smile, I became I'm a lifelong fan of the entire band, all of them. Anyways, here's my just posted video.....I hope everybody enjoys! I know none of us ever gets tired of Needles! :)
