Re: Who uses a gig bag?
Didn't know it was that bad Joey. Hope it gets better asap!
During college, I used a gig bag all the time. Carrying a bass and case to classes all day and on the subway just wouldn't cut it. I took a strap off another gig bag so mine would have two and I could wear it like a back pack. One night I slipped on some ice and landed flat on my back, bass first. No damage whatsoever to my 4001. My back and neck were a different story.

Re: Who uses a gig bag?
For my gig I require three basses, and I need to travel light so as to make one trip from vehicle to venue, or thru airports. I carry the Hofner in its hard case in one hand, clothes/costumes bag strapped over one shoulder, and in a double gig bag strapped on my back are the Ric 4001S and Fender Jazz.

Re: Who uses a gig bag?
Well, I talked myself into it and bought an RB Continental at GC today. It really is sturdy as all heck and there are so many pockets and features that free hands up for travel on bike or walking. I think I'll use it to take any bass to practice or a gig but store the basses in their SKB cases.
The neck brace system is really nice. I actually could shake the case pretty aggressively and felt no rattling around on the part of the bass. And, I was actually happy to let a GC employee play my 4003 AFG, as he showed me a picture of a 1980 4001 FG that looked a lot like it. The employees I dealt with were easy to work with, but then I didn't need much help.

Re: Who uses a gig bag?
Although I don't own one (yet), I would also recommend these Gator cases: http://www.gatorcases.com/Default.aspx? ... oryID=4387
They are extremely lightweight and durable. I know several people who have been dragging theirs around for years and they hold up incredibly well. I'm gonna get one for my Les Paul and one of my ES-175 soon.
Also, if memory serves, they have backpack-style straps.

That looks like a great alternative, JB. And at $80 (that's the Sweetwater price, anyway), not a bad deal.
Can we have everything louder than everything else?

Here's how a Ric fits in one of these RB Continentals (plus a Bonus Cat™):

Not a gigbag lover myself, seen/heard too many horror stories, but that certainly looks better than most!

Re: Who uses a gig bag?
I felt the same way, but felt I needed one. Then I went to Guitar Center and actually handled it... it's a beast. It probably really can take big drops and protect the instrument just like on the videos, the inner shell is hard as a rock.wints wrote:Not a gigbag lover myself, seen/heard too many horror stories, but that certainly looks better than most!
