'66 330/12 First Gig

Post by chucksimms »

Received my '66 330/12 from Emerald City Music on Friday, gigged with it last night. Sweet merciful ****, what a sound! Billy had said in an earlier thread how different a vintage 12 sounded and I am now a believer. I have always thought the vintage six strings were a completely different animal but the 12 is possibly even more so.
I've had a few Rick 12s over the years, including a really nice 2002 360/12 for the last few of steady gigging but there is no comparison- my band mates were astounded. The greatest difference I noticed was that you can hear both octaves with greater clarity. There were some songs we played and for the first time I thought it sounded like the sound on the record from the '60s. I am in love.

Totally agreed with Chuck. In my opinion the only recent guitar who can give that sound is the 360/12 C63.

I'm not sure what the question is!

And I sold the SPC to Witty some time ago.

Jason, I think that it was intended to get you to discuss the comparisons of the guitars listed with a '60s era 12-string.

I would mention that IMO the old-style 6-saddle bridge was contributing to the 'largeness; of the octave strings, but I don't want to be whipped and thrashed ... 8)
