Lennon's Rickenbacker Strings

Post by kieran campbell »

when did John switch from flats to rounds on his second ric? I have a 325c64 and use flats, love the feel, the sound.. not so much. To me it sounds to base'y' so Im all ways playing on the bridge pickup or adjusting the amp. Does anyone here have rounds or their 325? is there a drastic difference in sound/ tone?

here you can see John used rounds, at one point.

My 3 Ricks get Pyramid Flats and nothing but. Love the sound.... yea, it's not as bright and a bit jazzier, but seems to fit. If I want a much different sound I'll pick up another guitar.

Use a compressor. That usually helps for me when I use flats. Another thing to note, "Beatles Gear" said that John didn't really care about what kind of strings he used. his '58 V81 featured a mixture of flatwound and roundwound strings, some strings older than others...
