Tried to transcribe the text...
Since Rickenbacker put out one of the definitive bass designs (4000, 4001) a lot earlier in their illustrious history, one would have thought that they would either come up with (a) a better design or (b) stay the same and play about with the electronics. Sadly, they've done neither. The electronics on the Rickenbacker 2030 Hamburg bass sound more or less the same as earlier Ricks apart from their being a bit less treble response from the bridge pickup. The neck is very slim, which will please people like me who dislike bloody great tree trunks, which have marred a lot of basses in the past (notably the Gretsch and the Gibson EB0-3). The frets are good and the neck is, like all Ricks so far, laminated all the way round.
Now the bad news. The bloody thing looks like a ??? ???? cricket bat! The paint is ??? and ???, which isn't up my street, but will go with your spandex if you like that sort of thing. The pickup selector should easily last for 30 gigs before it snaps off and you have to get the screwdrivers out! The volume and tone controls look like they came off a Hofner Colorama, and the whole thing appears ill conceived and hastily put together.
Having said that though, it sounds ?? and handles well, and I may be being a bit hard on it because I like the old Rick designs so much. I don't actually know how much it costs, but if is cheap(ish), if its a good buy, and when you graduate to a better bass you can always ????.

Re: Lemmy's OTHER Rick......
I got a white 2030 via eBay, and I like it's overall fit and finishing. It sounds great, the electronics are not at all noisy, and the little selector switch has survived,no prob. The neck is a bit chunky IMO.The bass's downfall is that they seem to have used the same body as the guitar, and lt is not well balanced, somewhat neck heavy. That adds to fatigue factor.
Making the upper horn longer would most likely have alleviated that problem. So, my Whiteboy stays home nowadays.

Re: Lemmy's OTHER Rick......
The upper horn on these should have been longer for better balance, but they are not the same body blank for the guitar. They are several inches longer. The 3000 short scale has the same body shape though as the guitar though.
Re: Lemmy's OTHER Rick......
Ty for 411. I made an assumption and now want to do some better research.
Would the 320 and 2030 bodies have been the same width?

Re: Lemmy's OTHER Rick......
The 3001 and 2030/2050 basses had the same body shapes, but I've no idea on the 320 guitars.
Re: Lemmy's OTHER Rick......
No I'm sorry,that's a typo
it should read 230 guitar body..(And I thought I corrected it too
)
I found a picture of the 230 guitar, and one of a 2030 ,but they aren't in the same scale.By using the pickup size, control spacing and body width as a guidline, I resized one picture to try to get the scale the same, or at least close enough to compare them.Pickup size and control spacing are probably a given, but body width isn't.
For my next useless project, I'll count the angels on the head of a pin.

Re: Lemmy's OTHER Rick......
Dane, can you post a link to that auction please?
Re: Lemmy's OTHER Rick......
Erik.....I found this randomly searching Ebay under Lemmy's name. I didn't save the auction, but if the mag auction is still up, you should be able to find it like I did.
