Fishy ebay 325...

Post by tomliwgerg »

I, like most of you I'm sure, enjoy perusing the selection of Rickenbackers on ebay. Well, during tonight's session I found a rather peculiar posting for a 1967 325(1996) in fireglo for only $1700 "buy it now" price. I know! Dirt cheap. After reading through the numerous spelling and grammatical errors I was a bit turned off by it. Also, I thought I had seen it somewhere before. I searched for it here in the register and found the about a year ago it sold for $6000 on ebay. Even more striking was that the pictures on the register are the same for the ebay posting. Hmmmmmmm. :?

I thought that I would bring it up on here and see if anyone knew what the real deal was with this guitar. I think it's too cheap to be true. But who knows? Maybe he just needs some fast cash...

Here's a link to it.

Greg, that's commonly known as a "hijacked" or "hacked" auction.

Stay clear.

Greg,

Whenever you see an an eBay ad that looks something like this:
Ebay Scam.jpg
It's a scam. Run away! You'll notice the text is actually a jpeg file. They do this so it looks like a picture to eBay and it takes a little longer to get caught.

I hope that helps, good luck!

Thought so! I wasn't actually going to try to buy it because some deals are just too good to be true. I just wanted to do my part in trying to make everyone aware of a would-be scam. Also I thought it was a jpeg, and that's funny that they all use the same darn one... complete with spelling errors as well.

On a side note: does anyone have a 1964 325 in Jetglo with no f-hole played by the front man of a certain 60's pop group for sale for less than 2 grand?

That would be reeeaaal nice. :D
