Re: ATTENTION!!!!!
What a beauty!....of course I'm partial to Mapleglo
Not to harp on my thread from a few days ago (or hijack this one) but this is what I'm talking about. Most of us love the vintage appearance of a bass like this. I know that when I was purchasing my first Rick in '78, I wanted one just like this due to being influenced by Squire, McCartney, Kinks, Waters, etc...but couldn't find one. This was the Rick we all saw as kids on album covers and wanted. (at least I did).
So I'll get on my soapbox one last time
... but if RIC were to do a run of modern 4003s' then we'd have a few more out there and the new ones would be kinda like a third generation. 4001s with set necks being Gen1, late 80's 4003s' with modern truss rods and neck through being Gen2, and then if a new run was produced they'd have the new two piece neck and current electronics.
And, oh yeah, if I had the cash that 4001s would be a beautiful addition

Re: ATTENTION!!!!!
Thanks for the link. I'm drooling over the Sea Green v63, but at that price I just can't pull the trigger. The S is nice, just wish it was a different color.

Yeah, I figured there was a faux pas in my timeline as I was rambling on but want to get my point across before I lost my train of thought!

Re: ATTENTION!!!!!
The treble pickup surround is on backwards, and it looks like its been that way from the start...
Also I wonder what is holding the neck pickup bobbin in place?

Re: ATTENTION!!!!!
The set neck 4001S was once thought to fetch a much lower price than a standard 4001 in the used market. I don't think that's the case anymore and they are great sounding/playing basses.

Re: ATTENTION!!!!!
John, 4000 and 4001S basses from mid(?)-1972 to the end of production in the early 1980s were set necks. It appears they were considered common chassis and some that were bored out for the neck pickup were set up for delivery as single-pickup 4000. Not all were bored out that way, though.coolhandjjl wrote:Which Ric 4xxx had set necks? Didn't some of the last 4000's also?

Nice. But not at that price.
It's too early in the morning to talk about our relationship !
Re: ATTENTION!!!!!
I tend to agree with that assessment. I also would like to see under the TRC to confirm that the MG is original (because of the control cavities being black).VRICKY63 wrote:Nice. But not at that price.
One can see the set neck of my 1977 4000FL BG in this picture:bassduke49 wrote:John, 4000 and 4001S basses from mid(?)-1972 to the end of production in the early 1980s were set necks.
