Good point, Bill.....I think your point along with the economy has slowed things up a bit on here!

I can't speak for anyone but myself --- but what RIC does or doesn't produce these days has zero effect on my enthusiasm for Rickenbackers (or this forum).
It is only a topic of interest to those who are active consumers of new Rickenbackers. There is the rest of their 75+ year history to delve into for discussion, for the rest of us.
I think we've just discussed it all. There's nothing left to say.

Nothing will spark my interest unless they make a 1993/12 reissue in FG or a 360/12V66 in MG. I only buy used Rics from this forum otherwise.

360/12 C63 is on my list, preferably in JG, though the FG on the NAMM show model 360/12 C63 was crazy gorgeous!
Re: Lack of New Product - Enthusiasm Diminished?
I don't know, but the RIHS thread seems to sparking some interest. The discussion on the NAAM news revealed another "tweak" where the 4004 series will now share the same necks as the 4003. So while we Ricken-nuts may not have alot to talk about (or drool over) with regards to new instrument offerings, there certainly in no lack of enthusiasm for the "hidden gems" as I like to refer to them. RIC continues to innovate.
Would a new instrument spark greater forum traffic? Probably - folks both new and old to the brand would be here asking questions, posting "new guitar day" threads and the like. That would certainly also attract more new posters who would seek information from the veterans about such offerings.
Just my 2 shekels worth.

Good points! Hey, it's almost a whole new product; there's a shakeup in the string line, a RI horsey, and a new neck for the 4004; why, that's 3/4 of the elements needed for a new instrument.windchimp wrote:I don't know, but the RIHS thread seems to sparking some interest. Yeah Paulie - I can just see the ad copy now "New and Improved".....paologregorio wrote: Good points! Hey, it's almost a whole new product; there's a shakeup in the string line, a RI horsey, and a new neck for the 4004; why, that's 3/4 of the elements needed for a new instrument.
...but we're talking about RIC here, not those other guys. In other words, for RIC it's just "this year's model" rather than "Hey! Look! New! (version of the same thing we sold for the last 5 years) Limited Edition! Get yours before they're all gone!

I think it's kind of nice that people seem to have sobered up and are content to see RIC fight the backlog and improve their bread-and-butter.

Re: Lack of New Product - Enthusiasm Diminished?
I think the novelty of the forum has worn off a bit. Not that it isn't cool anymore....
I just think that there are so many more options (other forums, and especially Facebook) out there for the social networking aspect that didn't exist a few years ago.
It's still a great place to get information, talk Ricks, and meet good people...I just think the novelty has worn off a bit, and not as many people "hang out" here as there were 2 or 3 years ago.
Another thing that may affect perceived forum participation is the fact that it has become so compartmentalized. There are now something like 40 different forums here, plus about 10 sub forums. It used to be, you could post something in the "Rickenbacker Basses" forum about Chris Squire, about your fretless Rick, etc., but now those threads belong in another place and may get moved...which makes the "Rickenbacker Basses" forum have less participation than it otherwise would have.

Re: Lack of New Product - Enthusiasm Diminished?
We began our journey into all things Rickenbacker in 1997. Its humble beginnings can be read here and I thank Gerard Lanois for his efforts in this regard.
Much was learned in the first open forum including the lesson that people would say whatever they wanted often times with little or no caring or sensitivity regarding the feeling of others. For this reason a separate forum was set up that involved moderating. The simple act of moderating allowed for civility but has been offensive for some. It has always been our goal to strike a "happy medium" in this regard. Sometimes we achieve this goal and at other times we fall short. We have always done our best, however, to respect others while intervening in matters that become heated.
So we are still here 14 years later, 11 of them using a format that looks pretty much the same as it did in the beginning. Our blessing has been Gil Disatnik and all the wonderful moderators and consultants who have shared their time and expertise. I think it is important to ask what industry, workplace or discussion forum is the same today as it was 14 years ago. I think the short answer is none of them.
I consider that most of those who love Rickenbacker and love social discourse with others are just as enthusiastic today as they were in the beginning and some with tens of thousands of posts continue to show this each day. We have a Register with more than 12,000 instruments, a photo gallery with detailed pictures of more than 5, 000 instruments and more than 5,000 pricing entries of Rickenbackers sold on eBay. We continue to work on this daily, seven days a week.
Thanks to all who continue to visit and share their knowledge every day. The Rickenbacker Register continues to be a joy for me and thanks to the wonderful contributions of like-minded folks it is becoming a wonderful catalog of instruments over Rickenbacker's more than 75 year history. May you all continue to post for another 600,000 posts and another 40,000 topic areas.
Enthusiam is our middle name and we are proud and feel most fortunate to be here.

This makes me think of something a friend told me recently... "When I was young, all I could afford was a used guitar. Now that I'm older, all I can afford is a new guitar."larsongs wrote:Are most Ric buyers older & have more $$$ to spend on dream Guitars than younger players? Do young players buy Ric's or less expensive Fenders, Epi's etc.?

Expect nothing and you'll never be disappointed (and I mean that in an optimistic way).
