I am a lifelong Bass player and keyboardist who learned bass from playing stand-up in a Dixieland Jazz band from long ago. Anyway, I have decided that I would like to take up playing the guitar, so that I can use it in my songwriting and demos, but I am a bit lost when it comes to guitars. I am thinking that I would like a Rick with toasters, like a 1997 or 350(I'm afraid a 325 would be too challenging for me - my fingers are too fat!). A friend recommended the 660 because of the wide neck. Also, if I plan on using this guitar for rythym mostly and I wonder if a vibrato is a necessity. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Newby Guitar Question
"This is the big one, Elizabeth, I'm coming to join ya, honey!"
Squirebass: I too am a lifelong bass player who fiddles with guitar....I am not nor ever will be a lead player but I like to finger-pick and do rhythm parts too. My passion is twelve-string stuff....A find a vibrato to be useless (my opinion).... my Rickenbacker is old (1968) so the 'sound' it not a problem. I use my acoustics and Rick 12 almost specifically for demos and just for enjoyment. A 660 would be a fine choice, or even a 360. I have had a 610/12 and found it not as user friendly as a 360-370/12 would be in terms of playability, and my fingers are normal-sized (I guess..). If you buy new I think you won't want anything else but scatter-wound toaster-top pick-ups. Best of Luck !!
