I use Dean Markley gauge 45-100 and want to try flats on my Jazz and Ric but need to find flats that have the same tension as my roundwound string. I don't want to change my set up, but axes are set up sweet.

I've been using D'Addario nickel rounds on my Ricks for awhile, but the new two piece necks are so stiff that, even with the added 34lbs of tension of the B string on my 4-2-5 conversions, the truss rods are almost only finger tight. I'm going to try a set of good old RotoSound Swing Bass strings on my 4004L5 conversion next to see if I can get a bit more tension so I can tune out a dead spot or two on the D string.

We've all heard good things about the Fender 9050CL set. It might suit your needs...

I will give the fenders a look and take a set for a test run. Thanks. It will be time to change strings in a few weeks.

I use GHS Boomer med-lights on my V63 with Dunlop 1mm nylon picks or fingers for gigs. I'm really digging the NOS Rick Flats I got from the For Sale Section too. The tension suits me better than the TI's I had.

I was a GHS Super Steels user for many years until I accidentally discovered Dean Markley SR2000 strings. I love 'em, and they last a LONG time! And that's coming from someone who hits hard and likes fresh sounding strings.

I use custom printed picks from In Tune. They're basically Dunlop Tortex .88

I don 't typically use a pick.

I like the factory Rickenbacker rounds on mt '97 4003, and Roto 66 rounds on the '75 4001.

Hi from a new boy in London!
I got my first 4001 in about 1986 and I traded it for a jazz bass special after a couple of years but I always sort of regretted it. Having been through many basses since, musicmans, warwicks, and more recently Status graphites, I always had a soft spot for the old Ricky so I got me a '04 4003 JG and I love the sound but I have never really got on with the neck. I played a '73 4001 BG and it was spot on! I had to buy it, I am now addicted it's official! I've got 2!
anyway I use 40-100 rotosound 66 on the 4003, and the 4001 is at my local guitar guy being set up with the same in 45-105 as i wanted to try and get a bit more of a solid feel when i play between the PUPs.
I never used a pick, I'm all fingers & thumbs.

It's good to know there are others out there with the same Ricky obsession, I'm not alone! :D
