If this works, it's a link to where I got the "66" info. You have to scroll down a little.

By the way, my '65 Jazz Bass has the oval tuners too.

Nice photos and axes Kevin!
Also of note; Your photo of Paul playing the Fender Jazz bass in the studio clearly shows he's not using a pick. I read a thread here somewhere where some were saying he ALWAYS played with a pick.
Maybe you could drop that thread a link to your photo of Paul emulating our Yankee style.
(personally I think he did a lot of finger playing in the studio).

It is pretty hard to tell what does bring happiness; poverty and wealth have both failed.
And trying to achieve happiness, I have realized there is a fine line between genius and insanity---I have erased this line.

My guess is he was about 50/50 on playing with picks and fingers, from pictures and the sound produced.
I play with fingers on my Jazz 100% of the time, picks on Hofners, and split 50/50 on my Rick, all due to the string spacing.
Not that I'm anything like Sir Paul!
They are not actually playing in the promo films on the Anthology DVD's, but in most cases Paul is just playing with his fingers. I think it's in the Beatle Gear book, that Paul says he plays with a pick when it's a very important bass part (my words). Of course he didn't have many parts that were not important!
