McCartney - Las Vegas, June 9

Post by servant »

For those of you who know about Macca's "one night only" concert in Vegas last night, June 10, my wife and I saw him the night before, June 9th. He did a private gig for HP near the end of a five-day tech convention.

Having seen Wings Over America in Seattle, 1976, and feeling like my concert-going days were mostly behind me, I never thought I would see him again. I am glad that I did.

Even from other fan reviews I have read, I was pleasantly surprised at some of the song choices. Are the following songs "normal" for this tour?

Hello Goodbye
Junior's Farm *
All My Loving
Letting Go
Drive My Car
Sing the Changes
Let Me Roll It / Foxey Lady
The Long and Winding Road
Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five *
Let 'Em In
I've Just Seen a Face
And I Love Her
Blackbird
Here Today
Dance Tonight
Eleanor Rigby
Something
Band on the Run
Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da
Back in the USSR
A Day in the Life / Give Peace a Chance
Let It Be
Live and Let Die
Hey Jude

Encore 1:
Day Tripper
Get Back

Encore 2:
Yesterday
Sgt. Peppers (Reprise)
The End

* Nice surprises to me - two songs I really enjoy and thought would not be in the set list

Marred only by some distorted sound through the PA (!) and one rude fellow in the audience, we enjoyed the show from the third row of the floor, just to the right of center (between Paul and Brian Ray).

Glad you had a great time, Dean!

1985 was introduced last year to the set list. Jr's Farm is new to this year's set list.... All others are standards for the most part...

Very cool! Do you have a set list, or can you tell from above what you did NOT hear, and maybe add what was substituted (and where)? From Youtube videos of Friday night, they seem to have done Helter Skelter, Maybe I'm Amazed and I've Got a Feeling that we did not hear.

He used that as his George tribute song when I saw him at Fenway Park in 2009 (and has been for a while). Started out with just the ukelele George gave him and after singing the first two verses, the band entered quietly on the chorus and then heading out of the verse into the guitar solo - SLAM - the whole band kicked it full force into the guitar solo and that may be the best sound I've ever heard in my life.

Wow - five additional songs. I wonder if he felt, "the Thursday HP crowd is not all here because of me = truncated show" while Friday night would have been more "mostly fans; we sold out within minutes - let's give 'em a proper show."

That's OK - I don't feel slighted in the least! :-)

After seeing the MGM concert footage on YouTube, it's actually a very thoughtful choice for Paul to do "Something" as well as "Here Today".
With Olivia Harrison, Yoko and Sean Lennon in the audience, :D it is a moving tribute to his "brothers passed". Nice one Paulie!
