Harrison v64 with "R" Tailpiece

Post by dph »

I saw one for sale locally, but it's got an "R" Tailpiece? Is it still a v64? If not, how else is it different? The seller believes it's a '91.

Thanks in advance.

If it has 21 frets, full width inlays, toasters, and vintage style knobs, and it's from `91, then it's a V64, no matter which tailpiece it has. :)

If you bought it, you could buy a trapeze at the RIC site for about $40, IIRC. You could sell your "R" TP for more than that.

FYI, those who've had both types of TP on the guitar have said the ""R" provides more sustain, or something like that, which might be why a previous owner replaced the TP. . . . then again, he might have just preferred the look of the "R" TP. :D

i have seen factory fireglo 360v64/12 with r tp in 1993 in germany ...and i used to own 360v64/12 jg from 92 with factory r tailpiece as well - i took it off to check and no extra holes anywhere...

I'd switch it to trapeze. It looks better on the v64 imo.

Easier to string, that's for sure!

My 1987 v64 came with both the R and the trapeze. The guitar is currently set up with trapeze, just like the way it looks, a little more vintage to me.

seems like a had an 80's V6412 and it had an R tail in the case when I git it so maybe it was an option?

I prefer the look of the "R" tailpiece (I can't say anything for a difference in tone), but that's just my two cents! :D
