Re: MAJOR Kudos
After receiving my second-ever Rickenbacker yesterday (620/12), and am constantly reminded of the detail and dedication it took to make that one guitar, I can never say anything but positive things about Rickenbacker guitars and the company.
OP's new guitar is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. If my pockets were deep enough, I would certainly request something similar, if I was able and if the Halls and Rickenbacker were willing - No matter how long I had to wait. This small 620 trumps all my other guitars in quality. I am sure since the OP guitar was done one-off, the quality must be breathtaking!

You'e be better off getting a new 4003, replacing the fingerboard and the headstock wings. An unbound 4001 CANNOT be bound without replacing the body wings. You don't need factory approval to mod a Rick in this fashion.IvanMunoz wrote:What I wanna do to make my own one off someday (with JH's permission) is get a 4001C64 in fireglo, and somehow have it checkerbound, and have reverse CPI's, so its like if someone looked at a lefty 1967 4001 in a mirror.

Good call, in my excitement, I completely forgot about that.aceonbass wrote:You'e be better off getting a new 4003, replacing the fingerboard and the headstock wings. Now I remember what we corresponded about, and to remind other members...Matt was the guy who had us running in circles trying to work out how (and why) to fill a hollowbody Rick with something to convert it to a solid body with minimum weight penalty.winston wrote:I hope your waters were less troubled that mine were yesterday.johnhall wrote:I guess it was lucky I was off white-water rafting when this all happened, otherwise I might have been tempted to use my paddle here instead!

Some people have been known to put in a liquid substance that turns into Styrofoam, which only reduces feedback. I wouldn't do it, but I have known some people who have...jingle_jangle wrote:Now I remember what we corresponded about, and to remind other members...Matt was the guy who had us running in circles trying to work out how (and why) to fill a hollowbody Rick with something to convert it to a solid body with minimum weight penalty.winston wrote:I hope your waters were less troubled that mine were yesterday.johnhall wrote:I guess it was lucky I was off white-water rafting when this all happened, otherwise I might have been tempted to use my paddle here instead!

A number of members here, including myself, are materials-savvy, and we also have engineers and PhD chemists among our membership. We all contributed to the old thread, but it seemed that nothing we proposed would meet this person's needs.
In my experience, this is nothing more than attention-getting behavior. We were fooled--once.

Let me start with an apology to everyone for flying off the handle. I'm not normally like that but this thread just struck a way out of tune chord with me. I am truly sorry for hosing up a thread congratulating someone for a great purchase! I'm really a pretty nice even-keeled sort of guy--normally.jingle_jangle wrote:A number of members here, including myself, are materials-savvy, and we also have engineers and PhD chemists among our membership. I've shared pics of my 4 RICs and registered them. I've contributed to threads that I felt what I had to say might matter. Yep, I have said I don't care that much for my 330 and my 320, but that's reality. They just aren't that nice. I love them hanging on my wall like a fine piece of art, but I would never, as they are, play them in a gig or recording.
No sir, what you say is not true, I listened and took in everything that everybody said (in the other thread), and appreciated all of the real advise that wasn't a joke or an obvious attempt to make fun of me. And, some of you wonder why I became combative? No one here is any more serious than I am about my guitars. Some of you may have a lot more money to throw at them, but that doesn't make you more serious. My 360 and my 620 are a couple of the best guitars I have ever played and certainly of the best looking and I love the fact the RIC makes them. I don't hate RIC. I may disagree with the way they handle some things, but I don't hate them by a long shot. Attention getting, that was kind of the idea, but not for attentions sake. I'm not a phisher or a troll. I just had some strong opinions I wanted to get off of my chest.
Do I really want a 330/360 body style as a solid body guitar? Yep, very badly--have since about 1980. Would I pay Rickenbacker big bucks to get what I want from them--heck yes! Would a screw up an expensive instrument that I really cared about in the process of trying to accomplish this, no, I am not a fool. But, if someone had had a real answer that they new worked (which is what I was hoping for) I would sure consider it. And once again, I like heavy and being light weight is NOT a factor. Heck, I just bought an 1982 Peavey T-60 that weighs 9.65 pounds and love it. A few more pounds wouldn't hurt anything.
I hope that in the end you all understand.
