I was half right. Congrats, Woody, and I'm interested in your impressions as you regularly play a 4000.

Sorry for the amateurish,stomp-box-view shot, but this bass is already well documented onsite by John, who took great pics of it,so i just opped for an "action" shot. I still have not plugged it into an amp yet,but will do so tonite at practice. Initial playing impressions --it seems more "lively" than the cii,the action is just a smidge higher above the 8th fret, but still really good. The circle k strings feel really good,a very smooth RW,not sure what the gauge is on them. It is the same model year (2004) as the cii,and feels pretty similar (which is good for me!) again,i am blown away by Dane's work on this, and was a bit skeptical at first about the keywind change, but have to admit i like the feel of them better than the small schallers. Just playing around, i find my right hand directly over the back pickup,so am curiuos to see how that translates through an amp.
Ps thanx Joey,for the assist!

Ok,took the new bass to practice and really impressed by the sound(s) available from this. The pickup placement really put more focus on the highs and the rear pup esp cuts throo very nicely. I tried to use as many combinations of the coil taps/dual vol and tone rollofs as possible. I like the front pup coil tapped, and the bridge pup on full hb mode. I had forgotten about having a switch selector, certainly makes for some dramatic tone changes easily. as i mentioned before, this bass does seem more lively sounding, probably the body construction compared to the cii is the reason. A keeper most definitely! I didn't have to tune much, just the e string was a bit flat, and the traditional tuner felt really positive and accurate. I love having the 4002 pup positions back under my fingers again! MAYBE I can send Joey a small sound clip from practice,if i can edit a suitable moment. (my iphone actually makes pretty decent room recordings, but trying to edit on it is a pain)

Woody, in your memory experience, how close to a 4002 sound does this bass have? Curious about this because you have a 4000 and also had a 4002.
