4003 twisted neck

Post by Peter_Lourens »

Hello Mark. Someone offered me a 4003 with a twisted neck and worn frets. The bass will only cost about $175 so it is a good deal anyway I think. I guess you need to know what year it was made before you can tell me whether this neck can be fixed 'easily' or not?

I have been usinf 1985 as the cut off year of old rod system and the introduction of the new rod system .This is a generalization ...I don't really know when it was .

If you have a thick aluminum bar on the truss rods and two hex nuts ,then you most likely have the old .

If you have a thin bar ,two steel washers and two hex nuts ,you have the new.

The new is the easy one to fix .

I am also talking with a machinist friend about a trussrod possibility ,this would be an after market replacement .
Cost is a factor and how many people would want this and could the original look be retained?
And would ownership squash this or embrace it.
More news on that later.

Fixing a twisted neck and worn frets is fairly simple ...and extremely effective.
So you too want yours "ALAPWOB"?!?!
