325c64 vs. 1996 AFG Reissue: tone difference?

Post by melvinsrule »

Is there any difference in sound between them?
Is the f-hole purely cosmetic?
I want a 1996 AFG, but I'll settle for a 325c64. My RICs are a 660/12 TP, a 330 BBR, and a 4001c64s MG; I can't imagine buying a JG or MB RIC because I like seeing the grain. I even ordered my CS Tele in a nonstandard Cherry Burst because it looks a lot like AFG with a larger area of yellow.

Our own Bill Mahony owns a 325C64 and owned a 1996 AFG. He did a side by side comparison of the two models, as I recall correctly.

He can give you more insight on this than I can...

I have both models and they sound nearly identical. The fretboard radi are a bit different. The 1996 has a 10" and the c64 has 7.5". They weigh the same at 7 ilbs.

I would agree with Mike. I do not hear any difference.

To me they sound the same.

Missed this post when it first came out, and I no longer own the two... , but no, no real tonal difference IMO. I liked the feel of the neck a bit better on the 1996, probably due to the radius.
