Newbie here requesting string guages for my 360

Post by guitarpicker47p »

I just purchased a Rickenbacker 360 yesterday....a 2000 instrument with old strings. I am curious since the Rick has a skinnier neck than I am used to, if someone would recommend to me the guages to use...I realize this is a personal preference type of thingy, but I normally use flat wound strings 12 to 52 on my other guitars, as i play alot of jazz and chord melody work. so fire away at recommendations...I would like to stick with flat wounds if possible. by the way i purchased my first Rickenbacker back in 1962, which I still own....I dont know what model it was but it was the bottom of the line single pickup model, but I was in high school and thats all i could afford :) Thanks in advance for any recommendations for this "old newbie"

Larry, welcome to the RRF. Many here prefer TI flats for their lower tension. Although Ricks come fom the factory with 0.010"s you can most likely use 0.012"- 0.050" Jazz Swing set with a fresh set up. Most likely that would include filing the nut slots and tweeking the truss rods. Reintonation is a given. http://digitalcartography.com/js.htm

Welcome, Larry! :)

I use D'Addario ECG24 flatwounds (11-50) on a number of my guitars, including my Rickenbackers, and I love the sound and feel. There is a corresponding set like what you have used before (ECG25, 12-52 ), so if you are comfortable with 12s, you might as well use them.

Welcome!

You can use all strings You want. If necessary You just have to adjust the truss rods.

Since yesterday I am using TI Jazz flat wounds. Great strings, no problems with bendings at all - and a very nice feel to play, too.

Please: after writing about Your '62 purchase we need PICS!
