Bass Culture book

Post by glking14 »

I recently picked up a copy of this book and was impressed with John Entwistle,s collection, but no 4001's anywhere, the book shows some Ricks ,even an 8 string prototype but no 4001's.I remember him playing one but I guess that one got smashed,if it didn't get destroyed ,does anyone know what happened to it and which 4001 or 1999 he played.

Judging by the pics he played an RM, but I believe the neck went on it. Apart from the 8 and the 4005 basses I think he pretty much gave up on Rics after that. He did credit his RM with going a long way towards creating his sound though in one interview I read. IIRC he said using the Ric was the first time he heard clear, trebly notes from his gear.

John was one of the first guys in Britain to get an RM1999. Unfortunately, that bass went the way A LOT of RM's went due to his use of heavy guage strings.
I have this book, and have followed his career. I even have a copy of the Sotheby's Entwistle auction book. And as far as I know......apart from the 4008 prototype, and TWO 4005's....he did not have any other Ric basses.

That is a FANTASTIC book!!!!!!

Forumite Simon Mole landed the Mapleglo 4005 from the auction, and a photo of it is in my book.

I have memories of seeing pics of J E with an early (59/60) 4000 hung on his wall back in the '90s.... It definitely was not in the auction....
