Adding a blend pot to a 4001

Post by rob »

I was thinking about adding a blend pot to my 4001, since the treble pickup seems to be little too low. I know there were similar topics about this before, but does anyone think this is a good or bad idea? Could there possibly be something I could do instead of drilling another hole in my pickguard? Thanks.

The unbalance of the two pickups varies from era to era and from pickup type to pickup type.

You could get a pan pot /balance pot (EMG ,Bartolini,AllPARTS,Mouser all carry them)the value really is not that important. These are two pots stuck together with one shaft.

When you wire it ,you take one input and turn it on and the other input does the opposite.

version 1- remove the selector switch and replace it with the pan pot.

version 2- rewire the controls so you have the volumes on the bottom still but the neck pickup tone control becomes the pan pot and the bridge pickup becomes the master tone control

version 3- Make a new pickguard with the controls that you want/need.
This could be a pan pot ,with a master volume and a master tone control.
So you too want yours "ALAPWOB"?!?!
