Pete Steele - Type O Negative
I've known (or knew RIP) Pete since we were both around 14. Never saw him use a Ric...Wondering what the deal is with this one. Of note, I believe this is one of the last known pics of him alive.

Re: Pete Steele - Type O Negative
saw them a few times here in buffalo...great shows with coal chamber, etc.
last time they played here was shortly before he passed, and he went from having the body like the guys in "manowar" to becoming sickly and thin. he was rambling about nothing between songs and in noticed his poor health. did not know he would soon leave this world, and i greatly appreciated his vocal talent and great sonic bass tones...my fave cd's are october rust and world coming down. october rust blew me away ! white slavery off world coming down was pretty meaty !
when i first saw them here, it looked like he had an active 4001 bassed bass with an in line headstock...never seen someone drink so many bottles of wine in their set !
he will be missed deeply at my house. great that you knew him , marc. wish i could have.

You know, I never saw Type O live...wish I could have. In fact, I believe his last NYC show was with them at the Best Buy theater. My son and I got there very late and didn't get in. It was regrettable as I really wanted to introduce my son to him . Peter was always gracious to me.
Active Ric looking bass? I'm guessing it's the Esh (as seen below).
Personally, of my acquaintance with him, I was most proud that in my opinion, he had become one of the world's greatest bassists. If you've ever listened to his work with Carnivore, it seems impossible that he could play and sing with such counterpoint to one another. His influence for that? Paul McCartney.

Re: Pete Steele - Type O Negative
early type o seemed into that fast thrash with the previous drummer and i wasn't into that. when the new drummer joined up before october rust, he seemed into sabbath and slowed the band down a lot, making it more meaty and thoughtful as to where to place the next note and make it count. never heard the carnivore stuff...assumed it would be fast/thrash ??? pete had some interesting bass lines and distortin/fuzz sounds. loved the low god voice and rolling "R"'s !!!
Re: Pete Steele - Type O Negative
Type O always hit above their weight. I don't know if Peter ever played a Rickenbacker, either, but that picture is good enough reason to think about him.

'turn up the bass'

Carnivore was dubbed as one of the first "Thrash Crossover" bands. Whatever that means.
Yeah when Type O slowed it down, they earned the title "Heaviest Band Ever"

Thrash metal-hardcore punk CROSSOVER. Watch the music documentaries "Get Thrashed" and "American Hardcore" when you get the opportunity.

You must not have heard Warhorse from Massachusetts. BTW, that band does feature a Rick bass; too bad they're not around anymore. "As Heaven Turns to Ash" is/was one of the heaviest releases I ever heard, and I've heard a lot of releases.marc61 wrote:Carnivore was dubbed as one of the first "Thrash Crossover" bands.
