Does anyone know what Rickenbacker he's playing? Is it a rickenbacker? I've never seen it before...

It's either a late '50s/early '60s 360F or a replica of one -- probably the latter. There's a pretty clear shot of the guitar at 2:01 but no really good close-ups, so it's hard to tell.

What's off: the tailpiece looks like a Gibson-style trapeze, the plastic seems either white or silver, the "wings" on the headstock look wrong, the knobs are wrong, the fretboard is too dark and the body looks a bit to be too thin for an "F" body of that era.

If it were a 360F MG 1960, it would look something like this:

EDIT: It's a replica. There is no walnut center strip on the neck.

some movie/television/video producers block or remove names from brand name products to avoid advertising problems as far as permission or going thru the hassles of obtaining permission for using their product in filming for public consumption. sometimes companies do not want to be associated with the theme of a particular artform or the artist doesn't prefer to advertise either !

we were asked by the producers for permission to use our band's name in the movie "the gate" for a poster and the back of the kid's jacket. we didn't care...all the better...free advertising for us ! "hey, dude ! did you know that kid's jacket in the gate flick had your band's name on it ??? cool !"

Right you are. After a little more research (aka finding out that Wikipedia was not still shut down) I stumbled across this paragraph about Tim Rogers' fake 360F:

Over the course of his career, Rogers has been most associated with a series of Rickenbacker 360F copies made by Sydney luthier Piers Crocker, affectionately known as 'Crockenbackers'. Rogers owns 4 of the 5 Crockenbackers in existence, including a 12-string, bought after borrowing Brad Shepherd's Fender Coronado 12-string to record Hourly, Daily. Rogers bought his first Crockenbacker just before the recording of Hi Fi Way, and has used them ever since.
