Definitely not a problem for me... unless you count the extra weight that seems to be all to easy to pack on these days. But luckily, I don't live in California either...

Can you still get the original Black tolex with the blue lining? I need another one of those.

Original black with blue lining? How about red lining? Or brown, orange, magenta, etc.? Yeah, all of those were "original" lining colors at various times.

But, in answer to your question, no, RIC doesn't have anything but silver with blue lining these days in the vintage cases. They show up on ebay fairly often, or you can always have one custom made...

I have a nice black tolex case that has very form fitting blue padding inside. Much more so than the reissue silver vintage tolex. The padding is very ample on the sides of the bass and it matches its contours. It came with my Shadow. This one is most definitely a RIC case made for the 4001/3 bass. I have another black tolex case that has very little "side padding,. That one came with my Blackstar, but who knows where it actually originated from.

Yes, my 1976 4001 is blue lining. I just thought perhaps the factory could provide them on special order or something. The formed case that came with my new 4003 is ok but I do like the older style tolex case.

As far as I know, RIC doesn't offer special order cases. They don't even make cases.

The vintage style cases are made by G&G Quality case in Los Angeles. They do take individual orders and can make one for you:

They are a small company, so it'll probably take a while for a special order...

Not available from RIC since the early 90s.

Go with the G&G folks if you want one, I suppose.

I might order one, and request, if possible a "doughnut" type form fitting liner padding for my vintage cases, that I could drop in around the guitar body on the vintage cases, covered with the same "blue velvet" liner.
There is no reason to ever be bored.

...why yes, I suppose I do have a double bound guitar fetish...

There's one on ebay, looks to be in nice condition, but it has a black lining:

Actually, we DO have some new ones still in stock. If you have a Model 325, you're in luck . . .

Thanks for the response John, I've a 2012 (Feb) 4003. No issues with the new style units, like the older traditional cases.

Well, I have to say. I have both and I musch prefer the Silver Tolex for nostalgia and aesthetics. But I will tell you that the SIlver Ric cases are far in a way the highest quality Tolex case I have ever owned. It is one heavy and thick case.
