Holy Mackeral,
And a chocolate backside, wow that's amazing. That has to be the most figured top I've ever seen on a Rick.
Thanks for sharing those pics.

Yowza! And that looks like it's full thickness, not just a top, wow!
Nice.

Re: An introduction
Explanations in order. That one two posts up (or down depending on how your screen view is set) is a custom-built tribute to the old-style 4000 bass from the late 1950s. You're not going to find one of these in any dealer's stock. Same goes for the beautiful flamed front, walnut back Rick. However, that was factory built as a one-off and sold by the factory on their occasional eBay auctions. If C.J. weren't so remotely located, I'd be trying to get that one out of his stash!

This one is factory built, standard production, and full thickness figured maple:
The lighting shows the figure a bit better here:
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Re: An introduction
Yes mine is non-factory. I was not aware that the other one was.
Good to know...
I think it's time for Tony's "Tiger" to make a show....LOL!

Then, there's this one, also factory built, but again, a one-off:
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: An introduction
Alright now this is starting to feel like abuse!
So many incredible Maples, they are indeed my favorite. I was wondering where all those figures were from, never seen any stock Rick with that heavy figuring. But then again maybe the stores have collectors on staff that don't even let those hit the market. I do dig the look of that Birdseye too.
Curses to you all! Just kidding you should all be very proud of those.

OK, last bit of abuse
You can actually find 4004Cii models with quite a bit of figuring. Here's mine:
And of course, figured maple doesn't only come on basses:
So, I take it you're starting to get an idea of just what this place can do to ya, huh?

Re: An introduction
I'm starting to figure out coming in here might have been a bad financial move!
While I love the look of the 4004, and the figure is insane, I'm still a sucker for 4001 sorry to say.
And the dual steels are just incredible too.
Blown away, just awesome though.
And yet another damn goes out for another awesome Birdseye, nice.
Cheers,
Dirk
