NEW 4003 vs NEW 4001v63
I have a chance to get either a 4003 or a 4001v63, both brand new; With some of the conversations in here going on about the 4003 vs OLDER 4001 truss rods, neck strength, etc being better in the new 4003, do these things also apply in the 4003 NEW vs 4001v63 NEW?
In other words, which one of these basses would you guys recommend to me?
Thanks Guys!!

Personally, I would have to guess that both basses would have the same truss rod system; being they are both brand new. My opinion for you is to find a comparible amplifier to yours at the store (or bring your own if you can) and try out both for yourself. I really can't tell you which one to buy. Go for your personnal preference.
I believe the truss rod systems are the same for both the new 4003 and 4001v63. Ric used the updated truss rods in the v63 so that round wound strings could be standard.
I just picked up a new 4001v63 in MG. It's a GREAT bass. I went with it instead of the 4003 mainly because it's out of production - 4003 are still being made. From a collector's standpoint, the v63 is he way to go.
From a players standpoint, you can't go wrong with the v63. Plus, as a McCartney and Squire fan, the choice was obvious

From my point of view I suggest the 4003, as it does not have the horse shoe PU. On the 4003 you can remove the treble PU cover and play freely all along the strings, what is not possible on the v63. Most of the 4003/4001 players remove the PU cover for better playability.
