White Album...

I think that Dear Prudence is An amazing piece of work but my vote to the best soong on ythe white album....it'll have to be a couple because its too hard to pick one: WMGGW, Happiness is a warm gun,Helter Skelter, Back In the USSR, Long Long Long, I'm so Tired.

There are SO many good songs on the White Album that you almost have to look at it as a collection of songs, not an "album". Each member was exercising their own creativity, and it went in a lot of different directions, mostly because they had the room to do that with a double LP. But, for me, all of the directions were good ones. Wouldn't leave off one song.

That's one song I still skip over. I would have like to hear John sing it.

I have to say The White Album is my favorite Beatles Album.

As one who listened to the world premiere of the "White Album" while transiting Seattle on a bus many moons ago (the album was to played around the world simultaneously), it has always occupied a special place in my heart.

Whether the songs were filler or imcomplete or throw aways (such as "Why Don't We Do It in the Road?"), I still find pieces like "Helter Skelter" and "Everybody's Got Something to Hide..." and "Martha, My Dear" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" as portents of the future of music. There hasn't been so much creativity stuffed between pieces of cardbaord from four different musicians since.

Many, including George Martin, have said "The Beatles" would have made a terrific single LP if the "lads" had been willing to cut some stuff, but look at what we have. And I wonder what else was in their minds that never made it to tape or to sheet.

I think "The Beatles" is one of my favorites... but then again, I am hard pressed to point to any Beatle album has has left me lacking. Each of them is special in their own particular way, including MMT.

goodnight? theres no way you could leave it off, it really makes me happy. Notic how theres a song for every mood on the album. I listen to happiness is a warm gun, dear prudence, im so tired when im not feeling so good and want to begloomy, whereas Back in the USSR, Rocky Raccoon, why dont we do it in the road, all cheer me up. WMGGW is just pure appreciation listening for me, clapton is great on it. Piggies challenges my political conscience. Theres something for everyone.

Welcome Ciara. Very interesting points. I concur that there is something for everyone here. Perhaps this is the legacy of the White Album.

The most poignant song and the best in my view is Julia, I do find though that a lot of the songs on it were self indulgent to some degree. Of course by the time of the release I feel they were not so much a group anymore as 4 individuals within a group or to be perfectly frank, more like three and one who was there for the ride. Each song basically being an individual performance rather than a group performance. What I do bitterly regret is that I bought every album on day of release clearly having no idea as to future values. I gave the photos to my very young children, still have the broadsheet though. Same with Let It Be, threw the box away and gave book to kids.

Not to mention I used to play it on my guitar and sing it to my daughter as she was in bed and asking me in a 3-year old voice to "play her a bedtime song". She still remembers it.
